A journey toward inclusion

RULP representatives on a field visit to a financial institution

RULP representatives visited financial institutions in Kayonza and Gakenke to assess workplace inclusion and how people with dwarfism are actually served.

On the mornings of 18 and 19 March 2025, representatives of the Rwanda Union of Little People made a field visit to public and private financial institutions operating in Kayonza and Gakenke districts. The mission was to assess workplace inclusion and evaluate service delivery to people with dwarfism, against Rwanda's commitment to equality and accessibility for all citizens.

Honorine Tuyishimire, RULP's Executive Director, set out the problem plainly: “Today, I want to shed light on the specific challenges that people with dwarfism face in accessing financial services, and I hope this discussion inspires actionable change. Many banks are not designed with inclusivity in mind. High counters, inaccessible ATMs, and steep staircases are everyday barriers for people with short stature.”

Manasseh Nzanira, RULP's Legal Representative, thanked the institutions that opened their doors: “On behalf of RULP, I extend my deepest gratitude to the institutions we've visited for their openness and willingness to collaborate. Together, we can build systems that not only serve but empower every Rwandan, ensuring that no one is left behind.”
